History
Marinus ("Mark") H. Goossens
Mark Goossens is an attorney at law permitted to practice in the State of California. After a career in the Netherlands as a management consultant for financial institutions, he ventured on a solo backpacking trip around the world, which lasted 17 months. He then immigrated to the United States, pursued a legal career and founded his own law office in San Francisco, which serves the Bay Area. Mr. Goossens practices in the areas of Estate Planning, Probate, Family Law and Civil Litigation. He is a member in good standing of the State Bar of California and the Bar Association of San Francisco.
"What drives me is that I want to be a problem solver for my clients. Professionally, it is extremely satisfying to be able to solve another's problem," says Mr. Goossens. "Life is getting more and more complicated. People are busy and often do not have time to solve legal problems themselves. By practicing in the areas of Estate Planning, Probate and Family Law, I am in a position to solve some of the most common problems individuals and families face. Typical questions people have are: How do we protect our property from expensive and lengthy probate proceedings or estate taxation? Should we enter into marital agreements (whether pre or postnuptial)? How are child and spousal support arranged in dissolution of marriage? How does my deceased parents' house pass to their children? All these questions deal with property distribution and, often just around the corner, tax law. By practicing in these three areas, I am able to use my expertise in one area in the other areas."
Mr. Goossens graduated with honors from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California. Upon graduation, the law school awarded him a Certificate of Specialization with distinction in Litigation. In addition, he was a member of the Golden Gate University Law Review. While in law school, he was also a member of the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition team and the ATLA Mock Trial Competition team. He received multiple awards for academic excellence and was the recipient of the merit-based Lawrence Cowan Endowed Scholarship and the merit-based Joseph R. and June B. Rensch Endowed Scholarship. As a law student, Mr. Goossens worked as an extern for the Northern California Innocence Project and for the honorable Judge Vaughn R. Walker at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
